Vinny who? Notizen zum neuen Head Coach der Chicago Bulls - Vinny Del Negro [2:29 min]

- Fakten: Del Negro ist 41 Jahre jung, spielte von 1989 bis 2001 in der NBA, unterbrochen von Aufenthalten in der ersten italienischen Basketballliga (Benetton Treviso, Teamsystem Bologna) und war seit 2006 tätig als assistierender GM der Phoenix Suns, zuvor Analyst bei einem Radiosender. Del Negro ist 17. HC in der Geschichte der Bulls. Er wird bei den Bulls ca. 2 Millionen $ jährlich verdienen.


- Von allen neuen Head Coaches wissen wir in etwa, was wir zu erwarten haben, sogar bei Michael Curry in Detroit. Aber was eigentlich möchte dieser Del Negro in Chicago bestellen? Ich kann ein erstes längeres Interview mit Luol Deng oder Kirk Hinrich kaum erwarten...


- With Del Negro working with one of the league's cheapest coaching contracts and with only two years guaranteed, I can't think of a coach I'd look less fondly on to take over should things go to pot, say, by December of 2009. I'd be looking fondly on the truncated Doug Collins era by that point.


- Zur Erinnerung: Luol Deng und Ben Gordon haben ihre Vertragsverlängerung (Qualifyung Offer) noch nicht erhalten. Womit wohl würde Del Negro lieber arbeiten - Youngsters oder Routiniers, die man durch einen Trade erhalten würde? Oder macht's hier mal wieder die Mischung, wie man im Fußball sagt?


- Thabo Sefolosha, Joakim Noah und Tyrus Thomas sind die Spieler, denen Del Negro sich im Hinblick auf ihre Entwicklung besonders widmen wird.


- Doch nur zweite Wahl? Eigentlich wollten die Bulls Mike D'Antoni. Gar dritte Wahl? Wegen Doug Collins? Immerhin hat sich Del Negro gegen Chuck Person, Dwane Casey, Mark Jackson, Jeff Hornacek durchgesetzt. Außerdem dürfte er die billigste Lösung sein. Insgesamt sieben Wochen hat die Suche, die überraschend und etwas abrupt endete, gedauert.


- I mean, am I missing something here? Is the Bulls Head Coaching job not a desirable position? We have the second youngest team in the game, the Number 1 draft pick in the upcoming Draft, a big market city like Chicago, and a great fan base. It really boggles me that we can't land a big named Coach here in Chicago. We have to be missing something right? Or, it might be the fact that Management did not want to go that route of paying a big named Head Coach a lot of money this year, especially because we still owe Skiles a boatload of money from his Bulls contract. Whatever the fact is, Vinny Del Negro was definitely not what most Chicago Bulls fans were expecting.



- Einfache Frage: spricht das Ziel Del Negros, in Chicago wieder eine schnelle Offensive, einen up-tempo style spielen zu lassen, nicht für Derrick Rose als Nr. 1 Pick? Übrigens spielte Del Negro auf der gleichen Position wie Rose heute.


- Bulls-GM John Paxson zur nicht vorhandenen Erfahrung del Negros als Head Coach:

"Many guys have stepped into this job without experience and done very well"


- John Paxson sagt außerdem:

"I'm not saying we have a superstar on our roster. But we have very good players who last year played down from their ability. A lot of that was their confidence level and distractions around them. [...] My belief right now is with Vinny's leadership ability and his communication skills, he's going to invest time with players. That's what today's young player wants. X's and O's, he's not done it before, but his ideas are very good and creative. The philosophy he has is intriguing to me."


- Der Abstieg der hoffnungsvollen Bulls in zwei Zahlen: Del Negro ist der dritte HC innerhalb von sechs Monaten + die Bulls sind von 49 Siegen 2006/07 auf 49 Niederlagen 2007/08 abgerutscht.


- Maurizio Gherardini, der General Manager von Benetton Treviso war, als Del Negro diesen Verein zur italienischen Meisterschaft führte, beschreibt ihn so:

"He's very fundamentally sound, knows the game and how to relate to teammates and the community. In Treviso, he became an untouchable idol and is remembered as one of the most significant players in franchise history. He's a very likable and bright guy who is clever at establishing relationships with players. He's got a great sense of humor. But I only know him as a player."


- Wer werden nun die Assistants? Del Negro hat angedeuetet, er wolle erfahrene Mitarbeiter im Coaching Staff, so z. B. Bob Hill.


- Irgendwann nach dem Abschied von Michael Jordan muss sich in der NBA das Gefühl breit gemacht haben, dass ein Wechsel zu den Chicago Bulls kein guter Karriereschritt ist.


- Verhaltenes Statement Del Negros:

"I'm not a magician. It's not going to happen overnight. But I feel very confident that, over time, we'll get things moving in the right direction -- back in the right direction that the Bulls are used to. [...] I think that's fair. I haven't coached before. ... Winning builds confidence and there's a young team here that needs a confidence boost, I think. I'm not a magician. I just can't create things all of a sudden. It's going to be a daily process. Those are fair questions, I don't have a problem with that. [...] They lost their spirit last year. I'm not saying we have a superstar on our roster. I think we've got very good players that last year played down from their ability. A lot of that was their confidence level and all the distractions."
